AMAZON PRE AND POST CRUISE EXTENSIONS
Savor the wonders of Peru with one of Haimark’s pre or post cruise extension programs. Take a pre-trip spin around cosmopolitan Lima. Or travel post-cruise into the Sacred Valley, the heart of the Inca Empire, and tour the ancient site of Machu Picchu. Or tour the colonial city of Cusco and spend two tranquil nights on the shores of Lake Titicaca.
Pre-Cruise Extension: Lima, Peru (2-night)
Begin with a drive through Miraflores and San Isidro, past spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean and lush gardens such as the Parque de los Enamorados (Lovers’ Park). Your ultimate destination is the historic centre of Lima, the Ciudad de los Reyes, or City of Kings. Founded in 1535 by Francisco Pizarro, this was the capital of the Viceroyalty of Peru and the heart of Spanish rule in South America. Today it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site filled with magnificent 17th-18th century Hispano-American baroque buildings that have miraculously survived numerous earthquakes.
In addition to seeing the Government Palace, Archbishop’s Palace, and City Hall, you’ll visit the Church & Convent of San Francisco, one of the most significant religious sites in Lima. Following a visit to the catacombs, which served as a burial ground until 1808, you’ll tour the Cathedral, which houses the remains of Francisco Pizarro. Following a festive lunch, you’ll have the rest of the day and evening free to sample Lima’s many riches, from pre-Columbian temples and colonial mansions to treasure-filled museums, world-class restaurants, and lively nightclubs.
Airport transfers, expert, English-speaking guides, porterage, all applicable taxes, and breakfast daily are included. Internal flights are additional.

Post-Cruise Extension: Machu Picchu (4-night)
Follow your Amazon River cruise with two nights in Cusco and one night in Machu Picchu. Enjoy a tour of the Sacred Valley, then ride a train through the cloud forest to Aguas Calientes, where you’ll catch the coach to Machu Picchu. Built at the height of the Inca Empire, c. 1450, the “Lost City of the Incas” was abandoned a little over 100 years later, in 1572. Here, a local expert will guide you through the citadel, the main plaza, the royal quarters, and the Temple of Three Windows. Note the classical Inca architectural style, called ashlar, in which blocks of stone are cut to fit together tightly without mortar. Following your tour of this cherished UNESCO World Heritage site, check into the Sumaq Machu Picchu Hotel and enjoy time to relax before dinner. The next morning, watch the sunrise over the ancient city then catch the train back to the Sacred Valley and your flight home.
